Tertiary Studies & Work Training Courses

Our Services & Charges

We operate morning and afternoon return services to Christchurch from Ashburton on weekdays at times that allow passengers to be in Christchurch in time for starts from 8 am, and finishes up to 5 pm. We currently transport students attending the University of Canterbury, Otago University Medical School and ARA Madras St, Manawa, and Woolston campuses. We are also able to provide transportation to and from Lincoln University and other tertiary study and training locations in Christchurch. We provide students the option of either remaining at home while they are studying full time, or living in Christchurch and commuting home for weekends.

Pick Up & Drop Off Locations in Mid Canterbury

As our morning services pick up passengers from home in Tinwald, Ashburton, and passengers at a stop in Rakaia, passengers wishing to use our services from other locations will need to make their own arrangements to catch the service in one of these locations, either a ride in, or park for the day. If there is more than one passenger regularly traveling in from similar locations to catch the same service, we will put you in contact with one another so you can carpool. Our services travel along Singletree Road & Chertsey Road between Ashburton & Christchurch most days, passengers from that area may be able to be picked up or dropped off closer to home.

One Week Trial

We offer a trial rate of $20 per day return to Christchurch for the first full week for any passengers who meet these criteria:

  • They have not used our service for regular weekly travel before.
  • They will be travelling return to Christchurch from Tinwald, Ashburton or Rakaia at least 3 days per week.
  • Their study course or employment in Christchurch is for a minimum period of 4 weeks.
  • The passenger or their family will be funding the travel themselves, it will not be funded by an employer or other organisation.

The intention of the trial is to allow the passenger to assess the suitability of our services for their regular travel, so the trips taken in the trial week should be those that the passenger would normally take each week for study or work purposes. A week is a period of seven consecutive days. The trial period cannot be extended to allow 5 days of travel with non-travelling working days in between.

Study Related Funding

We currently do not receive any government or other funding, so are not able to provide discounted rates for individual students other than the concessions for regular travel above. We may be able to offer discounted rates for groups of students arranged by government agencies, schools, employers or the course organisers. Assistance with travel or other study related costs may also be available from one of these sources.

Tertiary Providers in Christchurch

We do not recommend or endorse any providers listed here. We are solely aiming to provide a resource to allow people to consider study options. Students should carry out their own evaluation of the suitability of courses and course providers. These are all providers we are currently providing, or have recently provided transportation to. We may be able to put people considering studying at these providers in touch with our passengers who are currently, or have previously attended for advice or recommendations. This education ministry website may also be helpful for comparing providers of similar courses. https://studyspy.ac.nz

English Language Schools – ARA and both universities provide English as a second language courses, and are reliable established options for course quality and recognition of qualifications. English NZ is the industry body that sets standards and ensures compliance, currently their only certified member school in Christchurch is Christchurch College of English. As English NZ membership certification is a relatively recent development, it is likely more schools will be added in the future. https://www.englishnewzealand.co.nz/students/english-nz-schools/
